Agtron often uses industry terms and jargon in our manuals and publications. Below is a list of terms and their definitions that are used regularly in our printed material. If you would like to print a copy of the Agtron Glossary, please scroll to the bottom of the post to download the .pdf file.

GLOSSARY

APP (APPLICATION, “App”)
Computer program used for mobile devices (Phone, Tablet)

AS APPLIED MAP
A field map that shows site-specific information about the inputs and rates that have been applied to your field

AUXILLARY SENSOR (AUX SENSOR)
Used as a substitute or reserve in case needed (EX: bin sensor, meter sensor)

BIN (TANK)
Bulk storage container holding seed and fertilizer

BLUETOOTH
Wireless technology standard for exchanging data over short distances (using short-wavelength radio waves in the ISM band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz[2]) from fixed and mobile devices, building personal area networks

BOUNDARY MAP
A field map showing the basic features of your field, including external boundaries and internal boundaries, such as waterways or terraces

CABLES
A group of wires, glass fibers, etc., covered in plastic or rubber and used to carry electricity or electrical signals (Sensor and main cables)

CAN BUS
CAN (CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK) systems are comprised of individual ECU’s, each with their own high speed processor connected through a high-speed communications cable. CAN has many benefits including greater ability to configure and expand the system, compatibility, simpler installs with less wiring and increased system dependability. (CAN ART, NH3, D3060)

CASE DRAIN SENSOR
Sensor that alerts the operator if the case drain is working, the case drain is required to carry the motor case internal leakage directly to the tractor hydraulic reservoir (sump) with zero pressure. This oil serves to lubricate and cool motor components not directly exposed to the working oil

CIRCUMFERENCE (SPEED CAL NUMBER)
Needed when installing a speed sensor (distance of wheel) or GPS/Radar (distance travelled per pulse)

DOUBLE SHOOT (LINE, HOSE)
A double shoot system has two lines going to the ground opener. One for seed and one for fertilizer

ECU (MODULE, NODE, BOX)
Electronic Control Unit used to monitor rate and blockage on the air seeder (CANART, Bridge, WI-FI, Legend)

FAN RPM SENSOR
A sensor used to detect the speed of the fan

FAN/SHAFT TARGETS
Bolt heads or magnets that the sensor has to pass by for a full revolution

GPS
Global Positioning System, GPS is a satellite navigation system used to determine ground position and velocity (location, speed, and direction)

GPS NMEA
National Marine Electronics Association, Agtron products do not use NMEA strings pulse ONLY

HARNESS
Pre-fabricated wiring with insulation and terminals ready to be attached to fans, shafts, bins, CANART (CANBUS harness, ISO Upgrade harness)

HEADLANDS
Area at each end of the field intended for turning equipment around

INFRARED
Light not visible to the naked eye that has a wavelength of 940nm

ISOBUS (ISO, ISO 11783-2)
An International standardized communication protocol that allows agricultural equipment to share a common language. Used for machinery monitoring

KIT
Two or more sellable parts sold together

LED
Light Emitting Diode

LOOP
Agtron Seed Flow Sensors and cables connected together to form a continuous circle

MAIN EXTENSION CABLE (MAIN HARNESS)
Cable going from monitor or ECU to the Y-Cable (10 and 20ft lengths)

MAIN SCREEN (HOME SCREEN, HOME PAGE, MAIN PAGE)
Typically displays Rate and alarms as well as application buttons to go to different screens

MANIFOLD (TOWER, TREE)
Pipe fitting with several lateral outlets for seed or fertilizer to flow through to the openers

METER SENSOR
A sensor used to alert operators if the meter is not working properly

MONITOR (BOX, HEAD)
A display used for observing and to enter calibrations (ART100/160/260)

OPENER (DISCS, KNIVES, RUNS, BOOT)
Responsible for placement of seed and fertilizer. It has a soil-breaking wear point, a soil dividing body, and delivery tubes to guide seed and fertilizer to the furrow bottom. Also, it often has deflecting surfaces to guide soil back around the fertilizer bands and seed rows

OPTICAL EYE (PHOTO TRANSISTOR)
Ideal for sensing black to white transitions or can be used to detect nearby objects

PRESCRIPTION MAP (Rx MAP)
A field map that represents variable rate input prescriptions, often based on yield maps, crop scouting, soil sampling or other data

PRIMARY HOSE
Large hose connecting the product tank to the manifold

RADAR PULSE
Is an object-detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, altitude, direction, or speed of objects

RATE (ACTUAL RATE)
The amount of product being applied based on weight of product/area

SECONDARY HOSE
Hose coming off the manifold to the openers distributing seed and/or fertilizer

SECTION CONTROL (ZONE COMMAND, INPUT CONTROL)
Allows you to Shut off or turn on product flow to one or more secondary manifolds

SEED SENSOR (SEED RATE SENSOR, SEED BLOCKAGE SENSOR, SEED RATE AND BLOCKAGE SENSOR, SEED RATE STAINLESS STEEL SENSOR, BLOCKAGE SENSOR, ID SENSOR)
It has a stainless steel tube with infrared optical eyes with two senders and two receivers that form a crosshair in the tube that counts the shadows as they pass through the beam

SENSOR EXTENSION CABLE (SENSOR LOOP EXTENSION CABLE, ART SENSOR LOOP CABLE, ART SENSOR CABLE, SENSOR LOOP CABLE)
Extension cables going from Y-Cable to the sensors or between towers to reach the next sensor

SHAFT RPM SENSOR
A sensor used to detect the speed of the meter shaft

SINGLE SHOOT (LINE, HOSE)
A single shoot system has only one delivery line going to the ground opener. The line carries seed and possibly some granular fertilizer

SYSTEM
A group of parts to make a complete system

TARGET RATE
A flat rate to be assigned for product application or planting

TEST SPEED
Speed source option that can be used to simulate ground speed

TOOLBAR
Main frame of the implement that runs width-ways perpendicular to the hitch

TOW BEHIND (LAGGING)
Tractor/implement/cart

TOW BETWEEN (LEADING)
Tractor/cart/implement

VARIABLE RATE
The technology used to vary the amount of inputs – seed, fertilizer, pesticides or other inputs – based on site-specific information, such as soil quality or plant health. VRT helps reduce overplanting or over-application and apply inputs in the most efficient manner. Variable Rate Technology gives planters the opportunity to change the population target rates automatically using hydraulic drives

VIRTUAL TERMINAL (VT)
The Virtual Terminal defines graphical user interface components that ISOBUS ECU’s present on a compatible display. (Pro 600/700, JD2600/2630)

WHEEL SPEED SENSOR
Sensor put on a wheel or shaft that turns when air seeder is in motion to determine the speed of the tractor

Wi-Fi (Wifi, WiFi)
A popular technology describes in IEEE standard 802.11b-1999 that allows an electronic device to exchange data or connect to the internet using radio waves

WIRELESS
Transfer of information between two or more points that are not connected by an electrical conductor using radio waves

WORK SWITCH (IMPLEMENT SWITCH, LIFT SWITCH)
A component of the air seeder equipment that signifies when the equipment is enabled (in the ground) or disabled (out of the ground). When the work switch is disabled, the audio alarm that alerts the operator to blockage of flow in the equipment’s runs will automatically be silenced

Y-CABLE
Cable going from monitor/ECU or main extension cable with male end going to sensor one and female end going to the last sensor in the loop
